Origin and Properties of the Bow and Arrow
For some inexplicable reason, although I am a
software engineer, I am also interested in the origin and
properties of the bow and arrow.
Here are a few good links I came across during an hour of surfing
(partly searching in Wikipedia, partly in Google):
- "Bow and Arrow", Encyclopedia Britannica.
- From Wikipedia.org:
- Selected Archery Articles from Sagittarius Twente University Archery Club:
- Concerning the Archery of al-Islam, a document purporting to contrast
English and Turkish bowmaking from a turkish point of view,
written by an American SCA enthusiast in the 20th century,
based on "Saracen Archery"
- History's Curve, by Lee Lawrence, 2003. Also mentions "Saracen Archery".
- A Note on Indian Bow Making, or, the Secrets of Sinew Revealed, by Dick Baugh
- Bow-arrow interaction in Archery, B.W. Kooi, Journal of Sports Sciences, 1998
- Gunpowder and Galleys: Changing Technology and Mediterranean Warfare at Sea in the Sixteenth Century by John Guilmartin. Mentions that the Turkish bow
was mistakenly "traditionally derided by European historians as antiquated and 'obsolete'".
And here's a page by someone following the same
impulse that drove me:
